Lansing, MI – The Michigan National Guard conducted a series of training exercises in Lansing and around the state Wednesday.

The "Vigilant Guard" exercise was centered in Lansing. The idea, according to Major Greg Babcock, was to gauge the National Guard's preparedness in the event of a flu pandemic.
"How does everybody communicate information?" says Babcock. "How do we work with the law enforcement? How do we work with the civilian health departments and hospitals, and other local businesses and everything? So, the interagency play is a key to this exercise."
In all, the exercises in Lansing and four other Michigan venues, plus one in Chicago, involved about 2,000 people and 50 non-National Guard agencies such as police and health departments.
Results will be evaluated in an "after action" report on Friday.
