Mich. reports 41 more confirmed cases of swine flu

By AP

Lansing, MI – LANSING, MI (AP)
Michigan officials have confirmed 41 new confirmed cases of swine flu in the state, bringing the total to 49.

The cases are spread among 12 of the state's 83 counties.

Kent County in western Michigan has the most confirmed cases of any
county at 17.

The state today began its own testing for confirmed swine flu
cases.

The federal government has determined the H1N1 virus is similar to seasonal flu and not as severe as initially feared.

The state has scaled back its emergency response to the outbreak.

And K-12 schools no longer are being urged to close if a student has the virus.
