Mich. governor orders flags at half-staff Monday

By AP

LANSING, MI – Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered that U.S. flags be lowered to half-staff and half-mast for the morning on Memorial Day.

Granholm has ordered flags lowered Monday until noon, when they should be raised to the top of the staff or mast.

Granholm says she wants Michigan residents to remember the meaning and importance of Memorial Day by honoring military members from the state and across the country who gave their lives in defending democracy and freedom.

She says in a statement it's a "tremendous privilege to salute these courageous heroes who gave so much to our state and nation."
