LANSING, MI – The Michigan Department of Agriculture is permanently closing all of its regional offices statewide to save money.
Agriculture Director Don Koivisto said Wednesday in a release that a district office in Marquette and regional offices in Detroit, Escanaba, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw, St. Joseph and Traverse City will be closed to save $600,000 annually.
Field staff will work out of their homes in those areas, but customers will have to call a toll-free number in Lansing to receive assistance. That number is (800) 292-3939.
Koivisto says the department will work hard to maintain a high level of customer service.
Additional information on how to contact the department is at its Web site at http://www.michigan.gov/mda.
