Michigan’s monthly unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest point in 14 years.
The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta reports.
The February jobless rate was 5.9%. That’s almost two percentage points below where it was a year ago. 96,000 new jobs were created over that period. There was also a slight drop from the previous month in the number of people competing for jobs. Folding in discouraged job-seekers and part-timers brings the rate to 13.4%.
The job gains were spread across the different sectors of the economy, but mostly manufacturing, business services, and government employment. Production workers did see a slight decrease in hours and earnings.
