MI First Election Coverage Launches with Debates

Over 200 MSU students collaborate to form the state's largest election team, as MI First Election covers the 2012 election beginning Wednesday night with the first presidential debate.The Michigan State University School of Journalism students are covering the 2012 election with a focus on viewpoints of voters their age.

Students are covering everything from the presidential race down to state, county, school, city and township elections. They are writing, recording audio, shooting photos and video and posting through social media including Facebook, Twitter, Storify, Ustream and YouTube.

The MI First Election team is collaborating with the national "Democracy in Action" project, local professional news organizations, and will be on the air with the public radio and television station WKAR. The effort combines journalism done by the Capital News Service team, public affairs reporting classes, and broadcasting classes.
