Downtown Lansing is gearing up for the 33rd annual Silver Bells in the city parade and state of Michigan tree lighting on Friday night. But if you're planning to go, meteorologists advise you keep the rain gear handy.
Thousands are expected to line the streets of downtown Lansing when the Silver Bells in the city parade starts Friday at 6:00 p.m. The grand marshal, Michigan State University's Sparty, will lead 11 high school marching bands 60 colorfully lit parade entries.
But beware, National Weather Service meteorologist Walt Felver said if you're planning to attend, you may get soaked.
"[it will be] rainy … and thunderstorms are possible," said Felver. "So there’s something to consider as we go through the weekend."
Before you head downtown, the city of Lansing advises you to text the word"SilverBells" to 888-777 so you can get weather and emergency notifications.
Felver also said the home football game between Michigan State University and Rutgers could also be wet.
"We're expecting rain, can't rule out a thunderstorm," said Felver. "Temperatures in the 40's. Then as you go toward 7:00, dropping down into the 30's and rain changing into snow."
