LANSING, MI –

The state's largest teachers union marched on the state Capitol Friday to stand against further budget cuts to K-12 schools.

AUDIO:
Hundreds of teachers and schools staff members marched up Michigan Avenue toward the Capitol building.

The Michigan Education Association teachers' union president Iris Salters addressed the crowd.

"We are here today because we care about our students, and the only way that we can ensure that they have the bright future is to have a secure, stable, equitable and adequate funding system for Michigan public schools," she says.

Salters says the group was here to deliver 100,000 post cards from MEA members to lawmakers and Governor Granholm, pleading with them not to allow any additional cuts to schools.
