Mayor Expects Emergency Manager

Mar 6, 2013

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he believes Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will appoint an emergency manager over the city's finances and that he "intends to work collaboratively" with that person.

Bing told The Associated Press Wednesday he met Tuesday in Lansing with Snyder.

Bing says he's considering whether to appeal a determination by a state-appointed review team and Snyder that Detroit has not put forward a plan to resolve the city's serious financial problem. He also questions whether budget troubles at 36th District Court also fall under the city's responsibility.

The city has until Monday to file an appeal, and a hearing would be held Tuesday.

Bing says he will review a resolution to file an appeal given to him by the City Council.

Detroit's budget deficit is $327 million.
