Lansing Mayoral Race: Wood Will Not Run Again

Lansing city council president Carol Wood says she will not run again for mayor.

Wood lost the mayor's race in Lansing to Virg Bernero four years ago. On WKAR's "Current State" program, she announced that she does not plan to take another shot at the city's top job.

Wood says a mayoral campaign would be a hindrance to her duties as council president.

"The idea that you're out fundraising and at a number of events," Wood says, "doesn't lend you the opportunity, then, to do the best job you can as president of council."

Wood has frequently tangled with Bernero, but says it isn't automatic that she will support whoever does run against the two-term mayor.
