LANSING, MI –
A spokesman for Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero says money spent on a major public service announcement on riverfront redevelopment was taken from the wrong city account.
Randy Hannan says Wednesday that the $3,349 charged last year to the city's parks millage fund should have been taken from a public service account.
Hannan responded to a Lansing State Journal report on an internal city audit. The audit also claims $32,890 was taken from the same fund last year to build a pathway outside an elementary school where Bernero's wife is the principal.
Hannan says Bernero considers the pathway project a success that "stands on its own merit."
Bernero, state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith and House Speaker Andy Dillon are Democratic candidates for Michigan governor.
