The Board of State Canvassers on Monday has officially adopted the vote totals for the November elections, including the presidential race. The official count is almost 2.6 million votes for President Obama; 2.1 million for Mitt Romney.
But there’s still one more step before Michigan’s 16 electoral votes officially go to President Obama.
Chris Thomas is the director of the Michigan Bureau of Elections.
“The electors, who were actually elected -- when voters vote for president, they’re actually voting for the presidential electors – they will convene at the state Capitol on December 17th to vote for president,” he says.
Thomas says voter turnout in November was down slightly from what it was in 2008.
