Lansing, MI – Ingham County health officials say the shortage of the H1N1 vaccine is forcing them to change their plans for immunizing all county residents.

AUDIO:

Ingham County will continue to offer the H1N1 vaccine at school-based clinics. But the shortage means the county will now only vaccinate children with underlying medical conditions that predispose them to complications from the flu. The county will also vaccinate high risk groups, including pregnant women and people living with infants up to six months old. The Ingham County Health Department's Marcus Cheatum says there's about three-thousand doses on hand.

"We're crossing our fingers and we think it will get us through the weekend," Cheatum says.

The first clinic for high risk groups will be this Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chippewa Middle School in Okemos. The county still plans to vaccinate healthy children and adults as the vaccine supply increases.
