Ingham commissioner wary of ICRC's response to snow

By Mark Bashore, WKAR

MASON, MI –

An Ingham County official is concerned with how the road commission responds to the season's first snowfall. Republican commissioner Steve Dougan says last month's controversial departure of Operations Manager Jim Benjamin may have put too much responsibility on the commission's managing director, Bill Conklin.

"I'm very sympathetic with Bill Conklin entering tonight's snowstorm," he says. "It's not that the employees don't know what they're doing because I think that they do, but when you have the consideration that says--'Well, you might need to do this instead of that'--now we have totally laid that in the hands of one person."

Dougan says Conklin may be spread too thin since he already oversees finance and human resources.

Meanwhile, Benjamin has announced he is suing the county for wrongful termination.

Tonight, the county services committee is considering options that would overhaul or possibly dissolve the road commission.
