Industrial fire sends up black smoke near Detroit

RIVER ROUGE, MI – An industrial fire is sending thick, black smoke into the air southwest of Detroit.

James Buford is Wayne County's director of homeland security and emergency management. He says the fire began around 9 a.m. Tuesday at a steel plant.

Buford says fire crews from Detroit and other surrounding communities were responding to the fire.

River Rouge police didn't have any immediate information. Detroit and River Rouge fire officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
