An overhaul of Michigan’s no-fault insurance law is moving quickly through the Legislature, where a House committee has opened hearings on the issue.

Just last week, the state Senate adopted legislation that takes aim at the fees hospitals charge insurance companies.
Republican state Representative Tom Leonard chairs the House Insurance Committee.
“My top priorities are ensuring that we keep the best benefits in the country and also finding ways to lower rates for our consumers,” he says.
But Democrats say the Republican plan would result in a loss of benefits with no promise of a rate rollback for drivers who pay some of the highest premiums in the country.
