Holt's Jesse Heikkinen Puts Pro Dreams On Hold, Joins MSU Baseball

Jun 21, 2017

Jesse Heikkinen is a man with a plan. At just 18 years old, Heikkinen has already checked off steps one and two of an eight-year plan that he himself drew up back in January. Step one: play baseball at Michigan State University. Check. Step two: get drafted by a Major League team. Check.

Heikkinen was taken 1,085th overall in last week's MLB draft by the hometown Detroit Tigers, a culmination of a dream he has had with him since he was nine years old.

Despite that dream being realized, Heikkinen has committed to and will join Michigan State baseball next season to play for coach Jake Boss Jr.  Jesse, his father Noel and younger brother Cole joined Wednesday's edition of Current Sports with Al Martin to discuss why he wanted to hold off on pro ball and join the Green and White.

On top of that, Jesse and his father discuss the trials and tribulations that the Holt squad went through while dealing with a scandal involving the Holt baseball coaches.
