High winds pummel Mich., 111,000 without power

By AP

DETROIT –
More than 110,000 homes and businesses remain without power after a two-day storm that caused one death in Michigan and knocked out power to more than 200,000 utility
customers roared across the country.

DTE spokesman Len Singer says 16,000 customers remained blacked out Thursday, down from 70,000 the previous day. He says power is expected to be restored to most Thursday night.

Consumers Energy said in a statement about 94,000 customers remained blacked out, and more than 275,000 customers have been affected by weather related outages since Tuesday. Crews from Ohio and Indiana were expected to assist Thursday's restoration efforts.

Kent County Sheriff officials say a contracted utility worker clearing fallen trees was killed Wednesday night in Boyne Township after he touched a live wire.
