Millions of people resolve to get in shape after the holiday merrymaking. Historically, gym and fitness club memberships spike in January, but the trick for gyms large and small is to prevent the workout from sliding into washout. Current State’s Kevin Lavery has the story.


A vow of better health is a common New Years’ resolution. Historically, memberships to gyms and fitness clubs spike in early January, but it’s also true that the numbers tend to fall off in the first quarter of the year. That’s when gyms have to get creative to keep their clientele.
