Granholm touts renewable energy in Stockholm

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

LANSING, MI –
Governor Granholm was inducted into Sweden's Royal Order of the Polar Star on the final day of her week-long overseas trip to seek jobs and investment for Michigan. She was honored for her work promoting renewable energy partnerships between Swedish companies and Michigan businesses. The governor says Sweden has made a major commitment to renewable energy, such as converting waste to fuel.

"So they take all of the waste, whether it's garbage from your home or wastewater and they re-use it," she says. "They see every bit of waste as an opportunity to create energy or heating or for cooling. It's really quite remarkable. It's something we can learn a lot of from."

The governor also announced the expansion of Swedish-Michigan partnerships in bio-gas production and manufacturing wind energy components.
