Granholm off to Stockholm

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

LANSING, MI –
Governor Granholm is in Sweden this week as she wraps up what is likely her final economic development trip overseas. The governor says the Swedish trip is focused on meeting with renewable energy companies and convincing them to locate or expand in Michigan.

This is the governor's 11th trip to Europe or Asia in search of jobs. She says her administration's plan has been to focus on some specific growth industries and countries that offer partnerships in those sectors.

"We're targeting Japan," Granholm says. "I've been to Israel on water technologies. I've been to Austria on advanced vehicle technology. Germany was a big focus on solar because of the solar sector we're developing."

The governor will address representatives of 30 Swedish businesses at a U. S. embassy dinner. She will meet with the king of Sweden, and she will address a sustainability conference in Stockholm before returning to Michigan at the end of the week.
