EAST LANSING, MI – Participants in a journey covering the length of the Grand River celebrate the end of their adventure Monday in Grand Haven.

The Grand River Expedition is a once-a-decade event devoted to exploration, research and the appreciation of the 260-mile waterway. Doug Carter is the Chairman of this year's event. He says tests performed during the trip indicate the health of the Grand is very good.

"E-coli is well within federal and state limits, so there's no human health advisory or any concern like that," Carter says. "Sometimes, when you have an extended, major storm with heavy rains like we had, runoff could generate some e-coli for a couple days. We haven't seen that."

Researchers and students from Michigan State University and Grand Valley State were joined by artists, environmentalists and the general public on the expedition. Up to a hundred watercraft are expected to arrive in Grand Haven early Monday afternoon to mark its end.
