Governor Snyder: Great Lakes Meeting Is Overdue

michigan.gov

Governor Rick Snyder says a meeting of Great Lakes governors and premiers planned for later this year is "way overdue."

Snyder in January joined Illinois Governor Pat Quinn as co-chair of the Council of Great Lakes Governors.

At an event Thursday in Detroit, Snyder said he's excited to welcome his peers in nearby states and provinces to Mackinac Island May 31-June 2. It's a get-together Snyder says he's "amazed" hasn't taken place in "quite a few years."

The Republican says he's looking forward to meeting with Quinn and the governors of the other six Great Lakes states as well as the premiers of Ontario and Quebec to discuss issues related to the lakes.

Among them, Snyder says, is the threat of the Asian carp, water levels and ballast water.
