Governor Snyder Close To Supporting Medical Marijuana Dispensaries, Edibles

It looks like Governor Rick Snyder could be close to supporting bills that would relax restrictions on medical marijuana in Michigan.

But as The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, he’s asking for some changes to the legislation first.

One bill would allow medical marijuana dispensaries in Michigan. Right now, it would leave it mostly up to local governments to regulate them. But supporters of the legislation say the governor wants dispensaries to be regulated the same statewide.

Bill sponsor Republican state Representative Mike Callton says he agrees. And he’s convinced Snyder will sign the legislation if it clears the state Senate with those changes.

“I think we’re getting so close for such a controversial bill,” he says.  “I think we’re getting so close.”

Governor Snyder’s office declined to comment on the legislation while discussions are still going on. Democratic candidate for governor Mark Schauer came out in support of the bills this week.
