Governor Declares Flint’s Financial Emergency Over

buickturboregal.com

Governor Rick Snyder has lifted the city of Flint’s financial emergency.

The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher has more.

The governor says Flint has shed more than $600 million in long-term liability costs. And the state just authorized a loan to eliminate a $7 million deficit in the city’s general fund.

Terry Stanton is a spokesperson for the state Department of Treasury. He says there’s now only one Michigan city – Lincoln Park – that’s under the control of an emergency manager.

“And that’s down from five or six a year or so ago at this time,” he says.

Stanton credits the state’s revamped emergency manager law and the improving economy. Several Michigan cities and school districts are still in some form of state receivership.

Jake Neher is a reporter for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He covers the State Legislature and other political events in Lansing.
