We talk to former Michigan House Speaker Craig DeRoche about his appearance in Ava Duvernay’s Netflix documentary “13th.”
“13th” is a documentary film and a Netflix original directed by Ava DuVernay. DuVernay has been best known for directing "Selma," the story of Martin Luther King’s historic 1965 civil rights march.
"13th" refers to the 13th Amendment which outlawed slavery. It touches on many issues involving the criminal justice system, starting with slavery and moving on through the civil rights movement, the war on drugs, and the increase in mass incarceration.
Former Michigan House Speaker Craig DeRoche is in the documentary. DeRoche is now the senior vice president of Advocacy and Public Policy for Prison Fellowship.
