Former Justice Betty Weaver, Frequent GOP Critic, Dies

mlive.com

Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Betty Weaver has died at the age of 74.

We have more from The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta.

Betty Weaver served for 16 years on the court as a Republican, but in later years engaged in frequent battles with the other GOP justices over the court’s operations and revealing details of closed-door meetings. Weaver resigned from the court in the summer of 2010 to give then-Governor Jennifer Granholm the chance to name a Democrat to the Supreme Court.

Weaver was from northern Michigan, where she served as a judge before winning a seat on the state Court of Appeals.
