Former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer has endorsed state House Speaker Andy Dillon in his bid for Michigan governor.

Archer and the Democratic candidate appeared together Monday morning at downtown Detroit's Campus Martius. The former mayor spoke about Dillon's development of an urban agenda that includes job creation, crime reduction and education investment.

Dillon lives in Wayne County's Redford Township, just outside Detroit. He is facing Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero for the Democratic Party's nomination. They are trying to woo voters in Detroit, a majority-black city that's a stronghold for Democratic votes.

U.S. Reps. John Conyers and Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick threw their support Saturday to Bernero.
