Flint's Mayor To Discuss Future Water Source on Tuesday Morning

WKAR-MSU
Mayor Karen Weaver, Flint, Michigan

Flint's future water source selection subject of Tuesday news conference and Thursday evening town hall.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver is expected to discuss her recommended plan on a future water source for the city on Tuesday morning.

The city has scheduled at 10:00 a.m. news conference at Flint City Hall. Bob Kaplan of EPA, Keith Creagh of MDEQ and Richard Baird of State of Michigan are also expected to take questions from reporters.

WKAR News reporter Kevin Lavery will attend the news conference and have a full report on WKAR.org and "All Things Considered" on Tuesday 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Residents will be able to ask questions at the 5:30 p.m. event April 20 at the House of Prayer church.

Flint was under state control when a decision was made in 2014 to switch from Detroit's water system to the Flint River to save money. The river water was not properly treated to reduce corrosion which caused lead to leach from old pipes and fixtures into drinking water.

Elevated levels of lead later were found in some children.

The city is back on water from Detroit's system until a permanent source is selected.
