The city of East Lansing prides itself as the home of the Green and White. But take a drive along Grand River Avenue near the MSU campus on a Friday or Saturday night and you’re bound to see some flashes of red and blue, too.
East Lansing police frequently contend with drunk drivers and other alcohol-related incidents, but the city is making some progress towards drying up the problem.
Current State’s Kevin Lavery reports that in September of 2014, East Lansing established a sobriety court. It’s an intensive program based on rehabilitation, testing and guidance from the courts. There are 50 people in the program, and yesterday, 11 of them became part of East Lansing’s inaugural graduating class.
