City of East Lansing workers have been busy counting deer this month. We ask the city’s environmental services administrator what they learn from the head and antler count.

It’s firearm deer season. Thousands of Michigan hunters are in the woods hoping to take down a buck.

In East Lansing, though, there's a different perspective. Municipal employees and some volunteers have been busy this month counting the number of deer in the city. The data helps manage the deer population and control the environmental impact of deer.

We talk about East Lansing's deer count with Environmental Services Administrator Cathy DeShambo and East lansing Department of Public Works intern Sarah Plantrich.

Current State discusses Michigan’s environment every Tuesday. Our segments and others about the Great Lakes environment can be found at wkar.org and at greatlakesecho.org.
