EAST LANSING, MI –
Parents in East Lansing will have a chance to discuss the possible effects of budget cuts in the school district, at an all-district parent council meeting on Tuesday night.
Superintendant Dave Chapin addressed an expected deficit of $2,000,000 at Monday night's school board meeting.
Chapin says up to three elementary schools could be closed; sixth-graders could be moved to McDonald Middle School; and, transportation could be cut or eliminated.
Other ideas being considered include a $150,000 cut to the district's athletic fund, and one or two district-wide furlough days.
The meeting begins at 7 p-m at East Lansing High School.
