Combining innovation and education is the goal of a new initiative at Michigan State University designed to foster entrepreneurship.

AUDIO: MSU has many offices and organizations dedicated to business development. But with the launch of "E-Net," the university hopes to link those offices with faculty and students to encourage and teach entrepreneurial skills. A new course offers students a certificate in entrepreneurship.

"The neat part of this is that someone can plug into any part of this network and have access to all of it," says E-Net director Bryan Ritchie. "And if it's connected, then all you have to do is just get into it, and once you're into it, then it becomes an ecosystem. And if an ecosystem is really functioning, it's naturally moving you to the right place at the right time."

Students can apply for up to $5,000 to help them develop a prototype. MSU is also formally launching a student-run business incubator at the Technology Innovation Center in East Lansing.
