Detroit plays on West Coast

By AP

UNDATED – The Detroit Tigers are headed to Seattle without one of their best hitters but may not need many runs with Justin Verlander on the mound.

Verlander will look to win a career-high fifth straight start when the Tigers (25-19) visit Safeco Field on Tuesday night to open a two-game set against the Mariners (16-28).

Detroit is without Miguel Cabrera, who will miss the next two games because his wife was scheduled to give birth to their second child.

The Tigers begin the final series of a seven-game road trip after losing two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend.
