Detroit chamber backs 3 for Michigan governor

The Detroit Regional Chamber's political action committee has made an unusual move with the endorsement of three candidates in Michigan's race for governor.

The business group said Tuesday it's endorsing Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder in the Republican race. It's also endorsing House Speaker Andy Dillon in the Democratic race.

The chamber says it had difficulty picking a consensus candidate on the Republican side in the Aug. 3 primary. The group says U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland also had strong support.

Other Republicans in the race are Attorney General Mike Cox and state Sen. Tom George.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is the other Democrat in the race.
