DETROIT – The Michigan Democratic Party Convention wrapped up in Detroit on Sunday. Democratic candidate for governor Virg Bernero and his running mate Brenda Lawrence used much of their closing speeches to stress their campaign theme of the importance of Main Street over Wall Street.
Bernero says his opponent, Republican candidate Rick Snyder, is representative of moneyed interests.
"This is a guy who's funding his own campaign with money he got by sending jobs overseas," Bernero says. "So he has to answer for that. I'm ready to answer for my record. I'm proud of the record I've created in Lansing of creating jobs and creating and atmosphere where small business can grow. We've got work to do in Michigan to put people back to work. That's my track record. It's just very different from Rick Snyder's."
The Democratic Party also officially announced its candidates for other political offices, including Jocelyn Benson for Secretary of State and David Leyton for Attorney General. The Party also nominated new state Supreme Court Justice Alton Davis and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Denise Langford Morris for the Michigan Supreme Court.
