On today's "Current Sports with Al Martin" we are putting the "prep" in preparation, as high school stars who put in the time and got the results are the theme of the day. After a brief debrief from Al regarding the dire state of the Detroit Tigers, it's onto the local mid-Michigan high school sports scene. First, Current Sports is joined by Joel Vande Kopple, the coach of Lansing Christian's first-ever state championship girls' soccer team. Vande Kopple goes through his team's meteoric rise, and takes listeners through what was going through his and the players' minds in a dramatic penalty kick shootout win to take state. Then, Jesse Heikkinen, Holt baseball alumnus and recent Detroit Tigers draftee, is live and in-studio. Al and intern Jacob Herbert pry at the news of his selection, and why he turned it down to play for MSU. Heikkinen is joined by his father and little brother, who lend their perspectives as well. To round up the big news day, engineer Isaac Constans gives an NBA trades round-up.
