Cox, Snyder won't attend GOP gov. candidate forum

By AP

BIRCH RUN, MI –

A forum for Republicans seeking to become Michigan's next governor won't have a complete lineup.

Attorney General Mike Cox and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder are not attending the Monday evening event in Birch Run. Both candidates cite scheduling conflicts.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, state Sen. Tom George and U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra are the main candidates scheduled to attend the forum sponsored by several Republican groups. Troy businessman David Kniffen also will speak.

Voters will choose Republican and Democratic candidates for governor during the Aug. 3 primary.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, House Speaker Andy Dillon and state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith are the Democratic candidates.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm can't run again because of term limits.
