Congressional candidates file quarterly reports

By AP

LANSING, MI – 2010 - WKAR" class="rwmtitlegfx">

A slew of candidates running for congressional seats in Michigan are getting ready to file campaign finance reports.

Thursday is the deadline for candidates to report how much they've raised, spent and had on hand as of June 30.

The reports could show who has enough resources for the final push to the Aug. 3 primary election.

Three seats are open. Republican Rep. Vern Ehlers of Grand Rapids in the 3rd District and Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak of Menominee in the 1st District are retiring. GOP Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland in the 2nd District is running for governor.

The chance to knock off freshmen Democratic Reps. Mark Schauer of Battle Creek and Gary Peters of Oakland County's Bloomfield Township has created crowded GOP fields in those races.
