East Lansing, MI – The city of East Lansing is offering a $10,000 reward for information regarding the desecration of a Quran at an East Lansing mosque over the weekend. A burned Quran was found outside the Islamic Center of East Lansing last Saturday morning.
East Lansing city manager Ted Staton says the city prides itself on its diversity.
"We happen to be welcoming to the point of having a mosque in our community," Staton said. "We're proud to have a mosque, a synagogue and many other churches in our community and we want to protect them from any sort of actions of intimidation."
East Lansing police are working with the FBI to determine if any crimes were committed. The incident gained international attention and sparked at least one attack on a church in India.
