Cindy Herfindahl Retires

Cindy Herfindahl, WKAR’s development director for the past eight years (and 28 years at MSU and WKAR in total), is retiring at the end of June. Cindy is known to WKAR viewers and listeners for her appearances during our on-air membership campaigns and to many others, particularly members of Sound Vision Society, Legacy Society and those who have given endowments to WKAR.

Cindy first came to WKAR in 1983 as the Director of the Radio Reading Service (then known as Radio Talking Book.) After serving in that role for four years, she left WKAR to join the Office of Planned Giving at MSU in 1987 and returned in 2001 as part of the development team – first in special gifts, then with corporate development/major gifts and, in 2004, became the stations’ development director.  Cindy has worked with many WKAR donors over the years documenting millions in planned gifts and cash gifts, all for the benefit of WKAR!

Cindy’s involvement in the community has been strong (fans of MSU’s homecoming parade may have seen her riding tandems in the parade with her husband, John Melcher, and friends!). She played a key role in WKAR’s community conversations and has been a presence at station events including Fall Preview and local festivals.

Cindy may be retiring from WKAR, but she’s anything but a “retiring” person! She plans to explore her interests in cross-cultural and experiential learning and combine that with her fundraising expertise to help local and international organizations.

Congratulations, Cindy – we’ll miss you!
