Calley says old rivalries delaying Michigan comeback

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

GRAND RAPIDS, MI –

Republican nominee for governor Rick Snyder says he chose state Representative Brian Calley to be his running mate because he is a team player with a record of getting things done in Lansing. Calley is a two-term lawmaker and an expert on tax policy.

Calley says he's pleased to join a ticket that's focused on retiring old rivalries that hold up Michigan's recovery.

"We have R versus D; east versus west, inner city versus rural," he says. "This man's not a part of any of those fights. We need all of those pieces to come together in order to make a difference for Michigan today, and so you don't write anyone off in that process."

The selection of Calley must still be approved this weekend by a state Republican convention. The GOP delegates will also nominate candidates for secretary of state, attorney general, and the Michigan Supreme Court.
