Bernero: new small Cadillac to be made in Lansing

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has announced that General Motors will add a small Cadillac to the lineup at the company's Lansing Grand River plant, adding about 600 jobs at the facility. In a statement, Bernero says GM will make an investment of about 190-million dollars to start making the Cadillac ATS, a compact version of the company's successful CTS.

The disclosure appeared to pre-empt "a significant manufacturing announcement" by GM CEO Dan Akerson scheduled for Thursday at the plant. Bernero, who is the Democratic candidate for Governor of Michigan, told the Lansing State Journal that the disclosure was not an "October Surprise." Attempts to reach a GM spokesperson were unsuccessful.
