LANSING, MI – Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero says he will file papers this week to form a committee to explore a campaign for governor. In a written statement, Bernero says he wants to see if he can build the statewide fund-raising and volunteer organization necessary for a campaign. Bernero has been critical of state government for cutting aid to cities. He says fixing cities would be his first priority. Bernero says he will make a decision on whether to run early next year. He is a former legislator and mayor of Michigan's sixth-largest city, and would be running for the Democratic nomination.
