AP Source: GM to build small Buick at Mich. plant

By AP

DETROIT –

A person briefed on General Motors Co.'s new products says the automaker is gearing up to build a small Buick crossover vehicle at a factory north of Detroit.

The person says the upscale new vehicle will be built in Orion Township, Michigan. It will be on the same frame as the new Chevrolet Aveo subcompact. GM is putting machinery in place to build the Aveo at the Orion plant. It will go on sale next year.

The person did not want to be identified because the company has not released details.

GM spokeswoman Dayna Hart confirmed the company will build a small Buick crossover but would not saw where or give other details.

Buick executives are scheduled to brief reporters on product plans at an event on Wednesday.
