73,000 scrap tires removed from 2 SW Mich. sites

By AP

LANSING, MI – Environmental regulators say more than 73,000 scrap tires have been removed from two disposal sites in southwestern Michigan.

The state says L.H. Automotive Recycling in Niles received a Scrap Tire Cleanup Grant for the removal of 42,000 from its site and more than 31,000 were removed from Joe's Auto Salvage in Three Rivers with a similar grant.

Scrap tire processor Entech Inc. in White Pigeon was hired by both businesses to remove the tires.

The state Department of Natural Resources and Environment's Scrap Tire Program is responsible for ensuring the proper disposal of scrap tires generated in the state and the cleanup of piles of more than 500 tires.
