UNDATED – A police chief says two more people have died in northwest Ohio from weekend tornadoes and thunderstorms that swept through the Midwest, bringing the death toll to seven.
Dozens of minor injuries from the storms have also been reported in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Two tornadoes were confirmed in Michigan.
In southeastern Michigan, the public information officer for Monroe County said severe storms and high winds ripped siding off a building at the Fermi 2 nuclear plant, causing it to shut down automatically. He said investigators inspected the plant Sunday, and it was expected to go back into operation.
DTE Energy Co. says about 6,700 of its customers remain without electrical service following weekend storms.
DTE Energy Co. spokesman John Austerberry says that most of the outages were in Monroe County, where the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado with winds of about 130 mph touched down in Dundee early Sunday.
Crews have been working to clean up damage in the southeastern corner of the state.
Austerberry says about 200 utility poles were broken and it will take at least two more days to rebuild them and fully restore power. At its peak after the storms, about 35,000 customers were without service.
The Weather Service confirmed a smaller tornado near Rome Center, 27 miles west of Dundee.
