DETROIT – Consumers Energy says about 30,000 mid- and northern Michigan homes and businesses remain without power after a two-day storm packing high winds caused one death and knocked out power to about 365,000 utility customers.
Consumers said in a statement Friday that crews from Ohio and Indiana were assisting restoration efforts, and power was expected to be returned by midnight. The company said more than 275,000 customers have been affected by weather related outages since the storm began Tuesday.
DTE Energy Co. spokesman Scott Simons says power has been restored to all of its customers after the storm affected about 90,000 consumers.
Kent County Sheriff officials said a contracted utility worker clearing fallen trees was killed Wednesday night in Boyne Township after he touched a live wire.
