3 jailed militia members released until trial

By AP

DETROIT –

Three members of a Michigan-based militia who are accused of conspiring to overthrow the government have been released from jail until trial.

David Stone Jr., Jacob Ward and Tina Stone were released to family members Tuesday after appearing in federal court in Detroit. They must wear electronic monitors and follow strict conditions set by a judge.

The U.S. attorney's office is appealing the release of six other militia members.

They are charged with conspiring to commit sedition, or rebellion, against the government and attempting to use weapons of mass destruction. Prosecutors had long argued that all were too dangerous to be out until trial.

Tina Stone and David Stone Jr. are from Lenawee County, Mich. Ward is from Huron, Ohio.
