2 tornadoes hit Macomb County, 84K out of power

By AP

DETROIT –

Two tornadoes touched down in Macomb County on Thursday, and at the storm's height, 84,000 Michigan homes and businesses were without power.

The National Weather Service made the determination Friday that the pair of twisters hit the suburban Detroit county the evening before.

As of late Friday afternoon, DTE Energy Co. spokeswoman Eileen Dixon said 53,000 customers still were without power. Of those, she says, 45,000 were in Macomb County.

Dixon expects the majority of those without power to have it restored by the end of Friday, but some will have to wait into the weekend.

CMS Energy Corp. spokeswoman Debra Dodd said earlier Friday most of the company's 1,400 customers who remained without power were in Genesee County.

A message seeking comment was left later in the day with CMS.
